Leave room in the photograph for air

There is a temptation, especially when you are proud of a piece, to fill every corner of the frame: props, fabric, a plant, a handwritten card, another product peeking in to prove you have a collection. The eye has nowhere to rest, so it rests nowhere.

I started leaving a margin of empty table around each object — not sterile white infinity, just enough quiet that the silhouette can breathe. Suddenly the stitch line was visible. The lip of the bowl caught light. People zoomed in instead of scrolling past.

Air in a photograph is not wasted space. It is the pause you give someone before they decide. Handmade work already carries enough information. You do not need to decorate the silence around it.

Try one listing this week with fewer props than you think you need. If the piece can stand alone on a worn board under a window, it is ready. If it cannot, the photograph is not the problem.
