Let the season into the shop, not onto the product

Doshe Journal

There is a week every autumn when studios fill listings with leaves, lanterns, and a pumpkin borrowed from the kitchen. The object disappears. What remains is a holiday mood that expires on the first of November.

I let the season in through the window, not through a pile of props. Warm light, a darker cloth, maybe one leaf that fell onto the board and stayed because it was already there. The piece still has to be itself in January.

If you make something people will live with all year, photograph it like a year-round companion. Seasonal work can wear the month honestly. Everything else should survive the calendar.

On Doshe this October, the shops that feel calm are not ignoring the season. They are refusing to bury the craft under it. Keep the pumpkin on the windowsill. Keep the listing about the work.
